Doctors Fund

The Doctors’ Fund is a charitable organisation run by the Patient Participation Group.  It was founded in the 1980’s when monetary donations were made to both Glendale Surgery and Burnhouse Surgery (now Wooler Health) by their patients’ and families.

All donations are used to buy equipment for the primary health care team as a whole and which is not funded by the NHS.  This can include equipment  for clinical use and  for loan to patients , ie wheelchairs, TENS machines, self help booklets.  It is also occasionally used for specialist clinical training (doctors, nurses and paramedics) which will benefit patient care and, again, is outwith NHS funded training.

Recent equipment purchased includes the weighing scales, height charts,  home blood pressure monitors,  new wheelchairs, 2 mobility aids for those who have recently had foot surgery which will enable them to get around the house without crutches.
