The Doctors’ Fund is a charitable organisation run by Trustees.  It was founded in the 1980’s when monetary donations were made to both Glendale Surgery and Burnhouse Surgery(now Wooler Health) by their patients’ and families. 

All donations are used to buy equipment for the primary health care team as a whole and which is not funded by the NHS.  This can include equipment  for clinical use and  for loan to patients , ie wheelchairs, TENS machines, self help booklets.  It is also occasionally used for specialist clinical training (doctors, nurses and paramedics) which will benefit patient care and, again, is outwith NHS funded training.

Recent equipment purchased includes the weighing scales, height charts and blood pressure machine for the waiting area to enable patients to carry out self-testing and hand the results into reception, home blood pressure monitors.   This could save you from having to come in for an appointment and may also save appointments for people who need to be seen.
