Out-of-hours services are available when the practice is closed, during the hours of 18:30 and 08:30.
If you need medical help but it’s not an emergency, call 111
Calls to 111 are FREE from landlines and mobiles and is available 24/7, every day of the year
You should call 111 when:
- you think you need to go to A&E or to another NHS urgent care service
- your GP surgery is closed and you need healthcare advice or a home visit
- you don’t know who to call for medical help.
Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
In a Life-threatening Emergency
Always call 999 if someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk. Examples of medical emergencies include (but are not limited to):
- Chest pain
- Difficulty in breathing
- Unconsciousness
- Slurred speech and/or visual disturbance and/or weakness in limbs/facial weakness
- Severe loss of blood
- Severe burns or scalds
- Choking
- Fitting or concussion
- Drowning
- Severe allergic reactions
Acting quickly can save lives and help to reduce the long-lasting affects of strokes.
During normal circumstances, by dialling 999, the Wooler paramedic will be sent immediately by ambulance control.
A&E Departments (now Minor Injuries Units)
The local accident and emergency departments at Alnwick and Berwick now only deal with minor injuries and send anything more serious to Cramlington.
Saying that, Cramlington is an emergency health centre to deal with dire emergencies only. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO CRAMLINGTON WITH ANYTHING MINOR but go to Berwick, Alnwick or Wansbeck Hospital at Ashington.
