Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) Injections

You may have heard in the media about injectable weight loss medication being made available for prescribing by GPs. NHS England has now shared who will be eligible for Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®). The rollout will be in different stages, starting with people who are most in need. In Phase 1, only people with serious health conditions will be able to get it on the NHS. This is the same everywhere in England. To be eligible for Mounjaro, you must:

  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or more, and
  • Have at least four of the following health problems:
    • High blood pressure
    • High cholesterol or fat levels in your blood
    • Heart disease
    • Type 2 diabetes
    • A diagnosis of sleep apnoea (trouble breathing while sleeping)

You can find more details in the official NHS guidance.

If you think you are eligible for Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) weight loss medicine, you can contact Wooler Health after 23 June 2025. We have developed a dedicated pathway for people who feel they may be eligible to contact the practice. This will involve an initial appointment with our Health and Wellbeing Coach Rebecca who will be able to advise as to the options available and the next steps.

Please do not make an appointment with a GP or nurse – our team will redirect you to the Health and Wellbeing Coach, who is the appropriate person to deal with your enquiry.

If you are not eligible for Mounjaro prescribing in the first round, Rebecca will still be happy to support you to make positive changes to your health to promote a healthier weight, or with referral to other weight management services.

Please check the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) weight loss webpage Advice and support weight-loss drugs information for patients for more information and the latest updates.

Continuity of Care

Patients with ongoing problems have better outcomes when looked after by the same GP. We therefore encourage patients to stick to being cared for by the same GP where practicable. Our staff will try to help our patients achieve this goal. Sometimes this may mean being asked to wait a day or two to see your regular GP if the problem is not urgent even though there might be sooner appointments with other GPs.

LINDISFARNE HEALTH PARTNERSHIP

As you may know, we merged with Well Close Square Surgery in Berwick in July 2022 and both practices are part of Lindisfarne Health.    As such, changes are gradually being made including the way our team answer the telephone.  We are no longer answering as 'Wooler Health' but 'Lindisfarne Health - Wooler'.   Our website name will remain as Wooler Health for now until patients get used to the new name so can find us!     Nothing else has changed, the staff and doctors remain the same.

DISCHARGE FROM HOSPITAL FOLLOWING SURGERY

If you've been in hospital for any kind or surgery, the hospital should arrange for any follow up nursing or social care needs for you before discharge.

They will also provide you with their '24 hour surgical helpline' details should you experience any problems following surgery so, if you do have a problem or query about your surgery or treatment, please contact them first as they will be able to access your hospital records whereas we can't and we may not even have received your discharge letter.

Contacting them directly will ensure that you receive the most appropriate advice or follow up care should you need it.
